Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Lumia mobile application (“App”) operated by Meridian Labs LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using Lumia, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Using Lumia

Account Registration

You must create an account to use most features of the App. Accounts are created through third-party sign-in providers (such as Google or Apple). You are responsible for maintaining the security of the account used to sign in. You agree to provide accurate information during registration, including your birth date, time, and location if you choose to use personalized features.

Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use Lumia. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. If you are in a jurisdiction that requires a higher minimum age for data processing consent, you must meet that age requirement.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity
  • Post content that is abusive, threatening, harassing, defamatory, discriminatory, or hateful in the community feed
  • Attempt to access other users' private data or accounts
  • Interfere with the operation of the App or its infrastructure
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the App
  • Distribute spam or unsolicited content through the community features
  • Circumvent rate limits, security measures, or access controls
  • Upload malicious files, viruses, or harmful code
  • Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities rather than reporting them
  • Use the App to stalk, harass, or harm another person
  • Abuse the referral or invitation system

2. Subscriptions and Payments

Free Features

Lumia is free to download and use. Core features including daily personalized insights, basic readings, journaling, and community access are available at no cost.

Premium Subscription

Optional premium features are available through a subscription (“Lumia Premium”). Premium features may include enhanced AI-powered conversations, extended reports, and additional content.

  • Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annual) through the Apple App Store.
  • Payment is charged to your App Store account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription through your device's App Store settings.
  • Pricing may vary by region and is displayed in your local currency at the time of purchase.

Free Trials

We may offer free trial periods for premium features. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will begin and you will be charged at the posted rate.

Refunds

Refund requests are handled by the Apple App Store according to their policies. We do not process refunds directly.

3. AI-Generated Content

Nature of AI Content

Lumia uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized content, including daily messages, reading interpretations, journal analysis, and conversational responses. This content is generated by third-party AI services on our behalf.

Limitations

AI-generated content:

  • Is for entertainment, self-reflection, and personal growth purposes only
  • Is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice
  • May contain inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or errors
  • Should not be relied upon for making important life decisions
  • May vary in quality and relevance

AI Usage Limits

Free and premium users may be subject to daily usage limits on AI-powered features, including conversations and content generation. These limits may change at our discretion.

Your Input to AI Features

Content you provide to AI features (such as journal entries and questions) may be processed by our AI service providers to generate responses. See our Privacy Policy for details on how this data is handled.

4. Your Content

Journal Entries

Journal entries you mark as private are encrypted at rest on our servers. However, certain journal features (such as AI-powered analysis, emotion detection, and summaries) require server-side processing of your content. Your private journal data is not shared with other users.

Community Posts

When you share content in the community feed, you grant Meridian Labs a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and reproduce that content within the App to other users. You retain ownership of your content.

You can delete your community posts at any time. Once deleted, we will remove them from the App, though cached copies may persist briefly.

Images and Media

You may upload images to the App (such as profile photos and journal images). By uploading, you confirm you have the right to use those images and grant us a license to store, process, and display them within the App. Images are stored on third-party cloud infrastructure.

Content Moderation and Reporting

We reserve the right to remove community content that violates these Terms or our community guidelines. Users may report content they believe violates these Terms. Repeated violations may result in account suspension or termination. We are not obligated to review all content but may do so at our discretion.

5. Social Features

Following and Interactions

The App includes social features such as following other users, liking and commenting on community posts, and sharing certain content with mutual followers. You are responsible for your interactions with other users.

Discovery Feed

The App uses algorithms, including machine learning, to personalize the content shown in your discovery feed. Factors may include your engagement history, content relevance, and other signals. We may conduct experiments to improve these features.

Blocking and Privacy

You can control the visibility of your profile (public or private). You may hide content from specific users. We provide tools to manage your social experience but cannot guarantee complete prevention of unwanted interactions.

6. Invitations and Referrals

You may invite others to join Lumia via email or referral codes. You agree to only invite people you know and who you reasonably believe would want to receive the invitation. Abuse of the invitation system (e.g., spamming) may result in account suspension.

7. Push Notifications

By enabling push notifications, you consent to receive notifications about activity on your account, including social interactions, personalized content, and service announcements. You can manage notification preferences within the App or through your device settings at any time.

8. Intellectual Property

The Lumia name, logo, design, and all original content within the App (including but not limited to text, graphics, icons, card artwork, and software) are the property of Meridian Labs LLC and are protected by intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on the App or its content without our written permission.

9. Disclaimers

Wellness and Lifestyle Content

Content provided through Lumia, including personalized insights, readings, and interpretations, is for entertainment, self-reflection, and personal growth purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice. If you are experiencing a crisis, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services.

Service Availability

We strive to keep Lumia available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The App may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We may place the App in maintenance mode with estimated restoration times.

Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services (including AI providers, cloud infrastructure, and authentication providers). We are not responsible for outages, changes, or limitations imposed by these third-party services.

No Warranty

The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Meridian Labs LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or reliance on AI-generated content. Our total liability for any claim related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $50 USD, whichever is greater.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Meridian Labs LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the App, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Account Termination

By You

You can request deletion of your account at any time through the App's settings. Account deletion is processed as a soft delete, and your personal data will be permanently removed within 30 days of your request.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive behavior, or if we are required to do so by law. We will attempt to notify you before or at the time of termination when reasonably possible.

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Any active subscription will not be refunded for the remaining period, though you may request a refund through the App Store. Content you posted in the community feed may be retained in anonymized form.

13. Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution

Before filing a formal dispute, you agree to contact us at hello@meridian-labs.co and attempt to resolve the issue informally for at least 30 days.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Jurisdiction

Any disputes not resolved informally shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement, constitute the entire agreement between you and Meridian Labs LLC regarding your use of the App.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and notify you through the App. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App.
